“Enterprises should be fully aware of trade remedies measures (anti-dumping, countervailing duty, safeguard) (“TRs”) to not only react to but also proactively and effectively use these measures to overcome the challenges of the integration era” is the message from the Seminar “Ultilising Trade Remedies Measures Effectively When Doing Business In The International Integration Era”, successfully held by SMiC Law Firm in collaboration with Trade Remedies Consulting  LLP. (Turkey) in this morning (18 August 2015).

The seminar involved the participation of a great number of enterprises and business associations (Vietnam Leather & Footwear Association, Vietnam Animal Feeds Association,  Vietnam Association of Consummer Goods Development, Vietnam Medical Equipments Association, Vietnam Steel Association, etc.).

The speakers are experts and experienced officers in charge of TRs cases and dispute settlement at the WTO, including Mr. Le Sy Giang – SMiC’s Trade Remedies Team Leader, Ms. Pham Chau Giang – Director of Trade Remedies Investigation Division of Vietnam Competition Authority (MOIT); Mr. Serdar Baskin – Managing Partner of Trade Remedies Consulting  LLP. (TRC), Former Chief of Trade Remedies Investigation Department of Turkey.

With practical contents closing to the demands of enterprises and associations, the presentations drew great attention of not only the business community but also the relevant associations. The participants had numerous questions about investigation procedures for TRs of foreign countries against Vietnam and exchanged their points of view about those TRs cases against imported goods initiated by Vietnam as well.

Representatives of  Vietnam Association of Consummer Goods Development and Vietnam Animal Feeds Association spoke at the seminar.

The active involvement of the business community, associations as well as the relevant authorities at the seminar showed their interest in the field of TRs - the raising demand of Vietnam in the context of current trade liberalisation.

“In the context of door-opening, liberalisation of global trade, traditionally protective barriers such as tariffs... shall be eliminated. The use of these TRs as means of protection tools for domestic productions against significant and raising pressure from foreign imports shall be obviously upwards trend. We organise this seminar to help enterprises enhance their knowledge of TRs so that they can proactively response to the foreign TRs proceedings and effectively use TRs to protect their legitimate rights”, said Dr. Le Thanh Vinh - Deputy General Director of SMiC Law Firm at the seminar.
